The Town of Whitby offers several comfortable picnic spots, picnic shelters and gazebos where you can relax, spend time with loved ones and enjoy the great outdoors.
Rentable picnic shelters
Picnic Shelters are available to rent at Cullen Central Park and Kiwanis Heydenshore Park. Barbeque use is only allowed in the shelters when you have a permit. A single Propane Barbeque is permitted per picnic shelter rental, to be provided by the permit holder. To book one of these shelters please complete a Picnic Shelter, Gazebo, General Park Permit Rental Request Form or call 905.668.7765. Requests for Picnic shelter rentals will open on Monday March 18, 2024. Picnic Shelters and Gazebos are available for permitting May 1- October 6, 2024
Cullen Central Park Special Event Area (300 Taunton Rd. W.) |
- Included in Rental -Covered shelter, 20 picnic tables, use of one propane BBQ (provided by permit holder), use of full kitchen, attached washroom facilities, and grass area immediately surrounding the shelter.
- Close proximity to paved walking trail, the Wounded Warrior Park of Reflection, and picturesque gardens On-Site.
- Permit holders to use the north end of the parking lot, which holds approximately 150 vehicles
- The Special Events Area is part of Cullen Central Park, and remains a public space. The public will still have access to the area
- ALCOHOL IS NOT PERMITTED in any of Whitby’s public parks
- Ideal For: Family BBQ’s, Outdoor Weddings, Birthday Parties, Corporate Events

Kiwanis Heydenshore Park (589 Water St.) |
- Each space is permitted once per day. Patrons have exclusive use of the shelter/area for the date listed on the rental permit.
- One propane BBQ (provided by permit holder) is permitted per shelter rental. All charcoal grills have been removed from Whitby parks. BBQs are NOT PERMITTED in Grass Program Area.
- ALCOHOL IS NOT PERMITTED in any of Whitby’s public parks.
- Park amenities include mature trees, paved walking/cycling trails, sand beach, playground, outdoor gym, water spray park, and large open grassy areas
- Ideal for: Family Picnics, Birthday Parties, BBQ’s

Grass Program Area |
Grass Program Area Located in the northeast corner of the park, to the east of Heydenshore Pavilion. An open, grassy area with no picnic shelter, therefore BBQs are NOT PERMITTED with this rental. Capacity: 50 people Rates: (HST Not Included)

Gazebos
Gazebos are a great place to sit, enjoy the view, gather with loved ones or even have photos taken. You can find gazebos at any of these four parks:

Barbecues in Town parks
Barbecue use is only allowed in rentable picnic areas and shelters when you have a facility rental permit.
You will need to book your facility rental permit before you arrive by emailing facilityrentals@whitby.ca or calling 905.668.7765.
Additional Information For Outdoor Bookings
Payment and Refunds:
We require full payment at time of booking for smaller shelters and gazebos, and 30% for larger Cullen events, with the remainder due 30 days before the event. The deposit can be made over the phone using Visa, AMEX or MasterCard. Payments can also be received in person at Iroquois Park Sports Centre. Please note the deposit fee of 30% of the rental fee is refundable provided that written notice of cancellation is received by the Permit Coordinator prior to the 90 days before the date of the event. Failure to give notice of cancellation prior to the 90 days will result in the forfeiture of the deposit fee. Cancellations and the requests for refunds within the 4 week period prior to the event will not be accepted. In case of inclement weather on the day of your event, you may revise your permit for a future date if there is availability.
Smoking:
The Smoking Restrictions By-law #7423-18 prohibits smoking on the following Town properties:
- All parks including all playground areas, recreational fields, soccer pitches, lacrosse fields and boxes, multi-purpose fields, baseball diamonds, splash pads, tennis courts, skateboard parks, bocce courts, lawn bowling greens, off leash dog parks, beaches, and picnic shelters;
- All libraries and library properties;
- All recreation centres and recreation centre properties;
- All arenas and arena properties; and
- All municipal event areas during Town organized events
