Pursuant to By-law #7585-19, enacted by Town Council in accordance with Section 88.11 of the Municipal Elections Act (MEA), a person who makes a contribution must be entitled to be an elector on Voting Day to receive a rebate.
Only contributions of money to a candidate running for office on the Town of Whitby’s Council, made during the time between when the candidate files his or her nomination and the day the candidate’s campaign period concludes in accordance with the Act, including any supplementary period if applicable, are eligible for a rebate.
In accordance with the MEA, a contribution to a candidate exceeding $25 shall not be contributed in the form of cash and shall be contributed in a manner that associates the contributor’s name and account with the payment or by a money order signed by the contributor.
Rebates to eligible individuals will be paid in accordance with By-law #7585-19 and will be calculated as follows:
Contributors may receive rebates for contributions made to more than one candidate; however, the total of all rebates cannot be more than $200.00.
In order to apply for a contribution rebate, the candidate and contributor must complete and sign a Contribution Rebate Form (below) and submit it in person, by letter mail to the Office of the Town Clerk (575 Rossland Road East, Whitby, ON, L1N 2M8), or by email (elections@whitby.ca) on or before June 30, 2023.
