The upgraded section of the Whitby Waterfront Trail between Forbes Street and Boundary Road (Intrepid Park) is now officially open to the public.
After months of dedicated work supported by a federal investment of $2.6 million through the Active Transportation Fund, the waterfront trail project has now been completed. As part of the work, the existing asphalt trail was fully reconstructed and widened to four metres to better accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists. As well, a new three-metre-wide pedestrian bridge and scenic boardwalk have also been installed, replacing the previous bridge and boardwalk infrastructure, offering improved accessibility and views along the trail.
These upgrades are part of the Town’s ongoing commitment to improving active transportation options and creating safe, inclusive, and enjoyable outdoor spaces for residents and visitors alike.
Thank you to all community members for your patience during the closure.
