June is one of our favourite months in the town. It marks and celebrates Pride Month, Recreation and Parks Month, Seniors’ Month, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Bike Month, Local Food Week, and the start of summer!

Mark your calendar to attend the Brooklin Spring Fair from June 5 to 8 at the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena Grounds. The fair offers something for everyone to enjoy, from midway rides and live music to agricultural exhibits, a demolition derby, truck pulls, and the popular Saturday morning parade. Get outside, get active, take a photo, and share it with us for a chance to win one of four $100 Town of Whitby Recreation Gift Certificates. To enter, watch the Town of Whitby's Facebook page (@TownofWhitby) for the contest to launch on June 1. Comment with a photo of you enjoying a Whitby Park or trail. All entries must be received by June 30 at 11:59 p.m. Entries may be shared on the Town’s social media platforms. If you do not wish for your photo to be shared, please send it to getactive@whitby.ca.
Leading up to National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), the Town will be hosting a special event on Tuesday, June 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at our culture pop-up event at Rotary Sunrise Lake Park (North of the Whitby Harbour Lighthouse Pier) at 269 Water Street. Join us to learn more about and celebrate Indigenous history and culture. June is also Seniors' Month and we're offering a variety of programs to help keep everyone connected. Check out the 55+ Extravaganza BBQ on June 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 55+ Recreation Centre (801 Brock St South). You can also enjoy Yoga in the Park at Rotary Centennial Park (800 Brock Street South) and visit the 55+ Art Show at the Whitby Public Library (405 Dundas Street West) or play Rotary or Penny Bingo at the Brooklin Community Centre and Library (8 Vipond Road) throughout the month. From playground drop-in programs to fitness and swimming, the Town has several activities to keep you active and moving. Check out the available activities and programs on ACTIVE Net. Registration for swimming lessons begins on June 3 at 9 a.m., and summer recreation program registration starts June 5 at 9 a.m. You can also drop into one of the Town’s splash pads throughout our community to stay cool during the summer. The Whitby Farmers’ Market is now open for the 2025 season at Celebration Square, and the Brooklin Farmers’ Market will run every Saturday starting June 14 until the end of October. Residents and visitors can shop outdoors for fresh local produce, baked goods, unique handmade products, and more. Learn more: WhitbyFarmersMarket.ca.
June is Bike Month – the perfect time to go for a ride through your neighbourhood. For a map of our trails, multi-use path, bike lanes, and six bike repair stands, visit whitby.ca/Cycling.
Whitby Town Council has proclaimed June as Pride Month. Flags will be raised on Friday, May 30 at 9 a.m. at Town Hall and all Town recreation facilities. Residents are welcome to attend the Whitby Library’s Drag Queen Storytime at Heydenshore Pavilion on Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m. This event will showcase stories and songs that celebrate diversity and inclusion. Attend the Durham Pride Parade on June 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. The parade will begin at Ajax Town Hall, 65 Harwood Ave South, Ajax. For more information, visit whitbylibrary.ca.
Local Food Week kicks off annually on the first Monday in June. Show your support by choosing local Canadian products when shopping at grocery stores and farmers' markets and when ordering online or dining at restaurants.
