The Town of Whitby is committed to supporting local organizations in their response to the COVID-19 public health crisis. Since March, the Town has awarded more than $50,000 in funding to groups delivering vital services and programming to the community’s most vulnerable.

The funding is provided through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund (MCDF), which offers financial assistance to local community groups, events and initiatives that help contribute to Whitby as a vibrant and caring community. 

This month’s recipients include: 

• All Saints Anglican Church –$2,500 to purchase food for those in need
• Alzheimer’s Society – $3,000 to create activity boxes for vulnerable community members (note: the group received $5,000 last month to convert family support, counselling and education programs to a virtual platform)
• Big Brother’s Big Sisters of South-West Durham - $2,500 to support a virtual mentoring program to engage vulnerable children and youth
• St. Vincent de Paul - $5,000 to purchase food vouchers for those in need
• Sunrise Youth Group - $5,000 to transition recreation programming for individuals with developmental disabilities to a virtual platform
• Windreach Farm - $5,000 to support virtual programming for their adult day program 

Previous fund recipients announced in April include the Whitby Caremongers, Community Care Durham, Feed the Need, Lakeridge Community Support Services, Luke’s Place and the Salvation Army.
