The Town of Whitby collects green bin (organic) waste weekly on your regular collection day.
Place your green bin at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day and remove any additional locking mechanisms, such as bungee cords before collection.
The Region of Durham provides new and replacement green bins if you have moved into a new residence or need a replacement bin for one that has broken. You can buy an extra green bin from the Region for a fee.
All green bin waste must be placed in a certified compostable bag with the following logo, or must be within an acceptable green bin liner, such as a paper bag or newspaper wrapping.
Bag or securely wrap all food waste. Things like egg cartons and fibre fast food drink trays can go in loose. Don't place any plastics in your green bin, or our collection staff will leave it at the curb, uncollected.
Use our Whitby Waste Wizard to determine if your waste item belongs in the green bin, or check out this quick list of acceptable items below.
