Boulevard Maintenance

The portion of your property nearest the street, known as the boulevard, is owned by the Town of Whitby. This area is an entrance point for many municipal services and we may need to access it in order to improve or repair services.

Maintaining the boulevard

As a property owner, it is your responsibility to maintain the municipal boulevard. This includes mowing grass. Please view the Property and Boulevard Maintenance By-law for full maintenance details.

Planting guidelines

Review the following planting guidelines:

• Grass and weeds can't be longer than 15 cm
• You can't cut or remove Town-planted trees
• You can't plant over the sidewalk, within 2 m of the curb or edge of the road or within 1 m of a fire hydrant
• No plants shall exceed 0.9 m above the grade of the boulevard
• You can't park in a location that causes a traffic safety issue or that impedes or blocks the sidewalk

Items prohibited from boulevards

Certain items are prohibited on the boulevard because they may create a hazard. The following items are not allowed on the boulevard:

• Rocks, bricks concrete slabs or anything protruding that is sharp or dangerous
• Light fixtures, pillars, signage or similar objects
• Fences
