Available Town Grants

The Town of Whitby offers a variety of grants to support community ideas, local events, accessibility improvements, and projects that strengthen our neighbourhoods and local economy. Whether you are planning a community event, hosting a festival that attracts visitors, improving accessibility, or investing in a business within one of Town’s downtowns, these programs are designed to help residents, community groups, and businesses make a positive impact.

Mayor’s Community Development Fund

The Mayor’s Community Development Fund (MCDF) supports local community initiatives, events, and programs that benefit Whitby residents and strengthen community well-being.

Eligible Groups:
Community groups and not-for-profit organizations serving Whitby.

Funding Amount: 
Lead grants up to $25,000. Community grants to up $5,000. 

Application Timing and Due Dates:
This funding stream is currently closed and will re-open in 2027.

Host in Whitby Grant Program

The Host in Whitby Grant Program Encourages events and festivals that attract visitors and generate economic impact in Whitby. 

Eligible Groups:
Event organizers, community groups, and tourism-related organizations

Funding Amount:
Up to $5,000. 

Application Timing and Due Dates:
Quarterly with due dates of January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 annually.

Accessibility Improvement Grants 

The Accessibility Improvement Grant supports accessibility upgrades that improve access for people with disabilities.

Eligible Groups:
Businesses and property owners (based on program criteria). 

Funding Amount:
Funded by Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) operating in Whitby, this grant provides matching dollars for accessibility projects. Three streams:

  • Lead Project Grant (up to $10,000): One impactful project.
  • Small Project Grants (up to $5,000): Smaller accessibility initiatives.
  • Educational Awareness Grant (up to $2,000): Raise awareness in schools.

Application Timing and Due Dates:
Ongoing. 

Downtown Whitby & Brooklin Community Improvement Grant

The Downtown Whitby & Brooklin Community Improvement Grant supports investment and property improvements in Downtown Whitby to enhance economic vitality and streetscape quality.

Eligible Groups:
Businesses and property owners within the Downtown Whitby CIP area. 

Funding Amount:
Funding amounts vary by improvement type. 

Application Timing and Due Dates:
Ongoing. 

Neighbourhood Microgrants

The Whitby Neighbourhood Microgrants Program supports small, community‑led projects that bring neighbours together and help build stronger, more connected neighbourhoods. 

Eligible Groups:
Whitby residents, individuals who work in the project neighbourhood, and small community groups (non‑profit status not required).

Funding Amount:
One‑time grants of up to $500. 

Application Timing and Due Dates:
Ongoing until funds depleted.
