Summer Student Recruitment

If you're interested in applying to become a summer student for our summer camps or employment with the Town of Whitby, view our current opportunities. Please note that only selected candidates will be contacted for an interview as positions become available. 

Summer Student Employment Program

The Summer Student Employment Program runs annually from the beginning of May to the end of August. If you are interested in taking on an exciting challenge and making a difference in the community, we have positions available in a variety of areas.

Summer Student Employment Program positions are posted from mid-December to mid-January. You must submit your application online and answer the pre-screening question to be considered. No further applications will be considered after 11:59 p.m. on the closing date.

Selection

Applications are reviewed in January. If you are selected for interview, you will be contacted to attend an interview during the month of February (typically during the spring reading break). If you're successful, you will receive a verbal job offer by the end of March.

Offer and onboarding

If you are a successful applicant, you will be sent an electronic offer letter to accept and return along with your required documentation. Hire dates for the Summer Student Employment Program begin as early as the last week in April, but most start the first week of May.

To work at the Town as a summer student, you must be:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • At least 16 years of age or older by the first day of the position
  • Able to provide a valid G driver's license in good standing (if applicable)

Summer Camps

Interested in working at one of our summer camps? Come join us! It is a great opportunity to grow your leadership skills and build your work experience. Learn about the variety of camps we provide the community to find out what type of camp interests you.

  • Basic First Aid and CPR "C" certifications (proof will be required at the interview)
  • Provide a current Police Record Check - Vulnerable Sector Screening (at the time of offer)
  • Demonstrate leadership experience
