Flag Raisings and Proclamations

The Town of Whitby is committed to recognizing significant dates, occasions and contributions of individuals and non-profit or charitable organizations, and public awareness campaigns. Learn more about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Whitby.

Flag Raising Requests

Our courtesy flagpole is located at the front of the Whitby Municipal Building and is used to hold flags of other nations or for awareness campaigns.

Submit the Flag Raising Request Form at least four (4) weeks in advance of the event.

To arrange a flag raising ceremony, please contact 905.430.4300 ext. 2203 or send us an email to inquire about an available time and/or the attendance of any Council members.

The Town Clerk will review each request in accordance with the Flag Raising Policy and list flag raising requests on an upcoming Council agenda for consideration and approval by Whitby Town Council. Once approved, you will be contacted with details for the flag raising.

When do Flag Raisings happen?

Flags are raised at the front of the Town of Whitby Municipal Building before 9:00 a.m. on the date that has been approved unless a flag raising ceremony has been scheduled.

Proclamation Requests

Proclamations are a ceremonial document designating a period (special day, week or month) in recognition of significant individuals, events or organizations.

Submit the Proclamation Request Form at least four (4) weeks in advance of the event.

The Town Clerk will review the merit of each request in accordance with the Town's Policy for the Issuance of Proclamations and list proclamation requests on an upcoming Council agenda for consideration and approval by Whitby Town Council. Once approved, a Proclamation Certificate, signed by the Mayor, will be issued to the organization, individual or community group.
