Short Term On-Street Parking Registration

If you need relief from Whitby's the three hour on-street parking by-law or the 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. overnight parking restriction between November 1 and April 15, Whitby residents and their visitors may register for the short term on-street parking program. On-Street Parking Registration

Whitby's on-street parking registration system has been upgraded to serve you better. You will need to create an account prior to registering for street parking. Please allow up to 5 days to process your initial registration. There is no cost for this service.

Create an account to register for short term on-street parking by-law exemptions.

A short term on-street parking exemption is used to allow residents to register vehicles of guests, health care workers, contractors, or other infrequent visitors for a FREE short-term parking permit. This permit exempts vehicles from the following elements:

  • 3 hour on-street parking limit
  • overnight parking (2 a.m. to 6 a.m.), subject to winter maintenance conditions

Please note: A short-term on-street parking exemption cannot be granted for residents of housing complexes, or for parking on a private road, Regional Road or a Provincial Road.

During a winter weather event requiring Town wide road plowing/salting, all parking exemptions are cancelled to allow snow plow vehicles to safely clear the roads. Parking on the road during a snow event is prohibited.

If you need to park on the street because of a construction project, including sidewalk/boulevard repair you still need to register  with the program. Construction-related requests don’t count towards your annual parking pass limit ( 12 weeks per year for personal use).

For large events such as weddings or large family gatherings, please contact Transportation Services two weeks in advance to arrange the appropriate parking measures.

The personal information collected on this form is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001. The information collected will be used by the Town of Whitby to administer the Town’s short term On-Street Parking Permit Program. Questions about this collection should be directed to the Transportation Services,  by phone at 905.430.4942 or by email.

Review our registration guidelines to understand our short term on-street parking permit program:

  • Each household is permitted to make a maximum of 12 requests for on-street parking registration each calendar year.
  • Each request may be for a maximum of 7 days in duration.
  • Each request is for a maximum of 5 vehicles.
  • No physical permit will be issued.
  • We reserve the right to cancel, revoke or refuse any request for registration.
  • Registration is voided during a snow event to allow for the efficient and safe removal of ice and snow.
  • If your vehicle falls within on of the ineligible vehicle categories or does not comply with the restriction within the Traffic By-law, your vehicle will be subject to a ticket.
  • Residents of apartment buildings and housing complexes are not eligible.

Not all vehicles are eligible to register for short term on-street parking. Enforcement will issue a parking ticket if one of the following vehicles is found parking on the street:

  • Commercial-use vehicles measuring more than 2.6 meters in width or 7 meters in length or weighing more than 5,000 kg
  • Recreational vehicles, camper trailers, pop-up trailers or open landscaping trailers measuring more than 2 meters in height or 7 meters in length
  • Closed trailers measuring more than 2.6 meters in height or 4 meters in length

In order to create an account in the registration system, you are required to:

  • Be a Whitby resident.
  • Upload proof of current residency.  The following items are acceptable as proof of residency: copy of valid government ID, rental agreement, tax bill, or current utility bill showing your name and address.

A short term temporary parking exemption is used to allow residents to register vehicles of guests, contractors, or other infrequent visitors for a FREE short-term parking permit. This permit exempts vehicles from the following elements of the Traffic By-law:

  • 3 hour on-street parking limit;
  • Overnight parking (2 a.m. to 6 a.m.), subject to winter maintenance conditions.

All other general Parking By-laws remain valid.

For large events such as weddings or large family gatherings, please contact Transportation Services at least two weeks in advance to arrange the appropriate parking measures.

If you received a parking ticket after completing the registration, send us an email or call us at 905.430.4322. We will review your situation to determine if it is appropriate to cancel your parking ticket. If you received a parking ticket for any infraction other than what our on-street registration covers, there are 3 options available to you.
