Fire Suppression and Training

Whitby Fire and Emergency Services is dedicated to protecting life and property through education, leadership and innovation. We have a variety of training facilities and equipment to keep our staff up to date on the latest emergency services techniques.

Fire Suppression Division

WFES Suppression Division consists of 135 firefighters working on four platoons. The crews respond to your emergency calls on a 24/7 basis.

Our firefighters are trained to respond to your needs in a caring, sensitive manner. Emergency responses may include:

  • Structure fires
  • Motor vehicles collisions/auto rescue
  • Medical emergencies
  • Carbon monoxide responses
  • Gas leaks
  • Technical rescues
  • Hazardous materials responses
  • Water/ice rescues

When the crew isn't responding to calls, they spend their time:

  • Delivering public education programs
  • Engaging in daily training activities
  • Maintaining equipment for best performance

Operations and equipment

Among the five stations that the Suppression Division runs out of, there are:

  • Five pumper/rescue apparatus
  • 1-100' aerial device
  • Six front run apparatus

For the five stations, the Suppression Division also has access to:

  • One tanker
  • One rescue unit

Professional Development and Training Division

Professional Development and Training Division is responsible for the education, training and implementation of procedures for our firefighters. With new hazards, equipment and techniques, firefighter skill development is an important part of the Fire Service, and is a continuous process throughout a firefighters career.
