Thinking About Running in Whitby’s Next Election?
Nominations for Candidates and Registrations for Third Party Advertisers Open May 1
Those interested in running for office in Whitby’s next municipal election will be able to officially put their names forward starting May 1, when nominations open.
The election will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026, with voters electing nine members to Whitby Town Council, including:
- a Mayor elected at large by all voters in the Town,
- four Regional Councillors with one representing each of the Town’s four wards, and
- four Local Councillors with one representing each of the Town’s four wards.
Voters will also elect school board trustees.

Opening of nominations marks the first step in the election process, allowing eligible individuals to formally register as candidates by filing nomination papers with the Town.
The deadline to submit nominations is August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. Walk-ins will be accommodated and wait times will vary based on availability.

Third Party Advertisers
A third party advertisement is an ad that supports, promotes, or opposes a candidate, or a “yes” or “no” answer to a question on the ballot. Third party in this context means a person or entity who is not a candidate.
An individual, corporation, or trade union may file with the Town Clerk a notice to be a registered third party for the election between May 1 and October 23, 2026 at the Office of the Town Clerk during regular business hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.).
