Mayor Roy's Statement on Vandalism at Whitby Central LibraryI am deeply troubled and saddened to learn that an act of antisemitic vandalism occurred at the Whitby Central Library last week, where several swastikas were carved into the wall of one of the washrooms.
Library staff responded immediately by covering the graffiti and calling police, who responded to the scene.

Giving New Life to Used Natural Christmas TreesUPDATED - The Town of Whitby is proud to partner with the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) to give new life to used natural Christmas trees. Trees collected by the Town are being delivered to CLOCA to help stabilize stream banks, control erosion, collect sediment, and more.

Town Announces 2024 Celebrating Youth Award WinnersMore than 20 Whitby youth have been selected as this year’s Celebrating Youth Award winners in recognition of their outstanding leadership and positive contributions to the community.
Together, this year’s award winners were recognized for:
- volunteering for school councils and events;
- participating as positive role models within school teams;
- fundraising and volunteering for organizations like The Canadian Cancer Society, Community Care Durham, WindReach Farm, Meals on Wheels, Sick Kids Hospital,.

Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy’s statement on investigation outcomeI am pleased to share that an independent investigation has been completed and confirms what I have maintained from the outset: no closed Council meeting was held on October 7 and no violation of the Municipal Act occurred.
This investigation was in response to allegations that I, along with other members of Council, convened what Regional Councillor Chris Leahy termed a “secret” Council meeting on October 7, 2024, in violation of the Municipal Act.

Grade Six Student Announced As 2024 Whitby Junior Fire ChiefCongratulations to grade six student Colin Lepre who has been selected as the 2024 Whitby Junior Fire Chief.
Colin goes to Chris Hadfield Public School and was selected from graduates of this year's Junior Firefighter Summer Camp for his outstanding knowledge of fire safety, active engagement, and willingness to assist his peers.
