Town of Whitby Celebrates Grand Reopening of Whitby Visitor’s Centre

Today, the Town officially reopened the Whitby Visitor’s Centre at 297 Front Street West, welcoming visitors back for a new season along the harbour. The opening event featured remarks from Town representatives and local guests, followed by a ribbon cutting and a walk-through of the refreshed space.

The reopening is part of the broader waterfront revitalization project, which includes previously committed federal funding of $200,000 from the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), to support improvements along Whitby’s waterfront.

This season, guests can enjoy a new experience with glow‑in‑the‑dark kayak rentals hosted by Illuminated Escapes. The Visitor’s Centre once again features beautiful artwork from multidisciplinary Anishinaabe artist and Nipissing First Nation member Tessa Shank, Muskoka Chairs, and bistro tables to enjoy the serenity of the Whitby waterfront, as well as a buoy that’s perfect for photos, designed and fabricated by local Whitby business Grayler Metals Corp.

QUOTES

“Revitalizing the waterfront is a key priority in Whitby’s Community Strategic Plan, and the reopening of the Visitor Centre is an important step in bringing that vision to life. Alongside other exciting initiatives—like the restaurant and culinary hub coming to Rowe House and the popular Town Brewery pop-up at the Pumphouse—this reflects a coordinated effort to attract more residents and visitors to the waterfront and strengthen tourism in Whitby. Together, we’re creating a vibrant, welcoming waterfront that brings people together and showcases Whitby’s natural beauty.”

— Elizabeth Roy, Mayor of Town of Whitby

“By enhancing public spaces, the Government of Canada is supporting communities such as Whitby to build a stronger, more resilient economy for southern Ontario.”

— The Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

“Investing in Whitby’s waterfront is about more than infrastructure; it’s about creating vibrant, welcoming spaces where people can connect, local businesses can thrive, and communities can flourish. Through FedDev Ontario, the Government of Canada is proud to support this revitalization, highlighting all the reasons Whitby is such a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.”

— Ryan Turnbull, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and National Revenue and to the Secretary of State (Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions), and Member of Parliament for Whitby
