Ten Things to do in Whitby This JuneFrom fairs and farmers’ markets to Local Food Week and the start of summer, June is packed with events in Whitby. With Pride Month, Recreation and Parks Month, Seniors’ Month, Bike Month, and more all on the calendar, there’s no shortage of ways to get out and enjoy what’s happening around Town.

Here’s what you won’t want to miss:

1. Visit the Brooklin Spring Fair

Brooklin’s biggest weekend returns Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7 at the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena Grounds, with midway rides, live entertainment, agricultural exhibits, a demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls, and the Saturday morning parade. 2. Attend a Seniors’ Month Activity

Whitby is marking Seniors’ Month with a lineup of drop-in events throughout June. Spring into Style is a fashion and lifestyle event sponsored by Viva Whitby Shores Retirement Communities, while Wellings of Whitby is the lead sponsor of the month’s programming. A variety of events to enjoy include Meet the Artists on June 12, Tai Chi in the Park on June 16, the 55+ Extravaganza on June 19 and Yoga in the Park on June 23. 3. Celebrate Recreation and Parks Month and Register for Summer Programs

June is Recreation and Parks Month, create a wish list so you are ready for aquatics registration for residents, which opens June 2 at 9 a.m., followed by summer recreation programs for residents on June 4 at 9 a.m. (June 10 for non-residents). The town is hosting free drop-in swims, skating, and fitness sessions throughout the month. whitby.ca/GetActive

4. Stay Cool at a Splash Pad

Whitby’s splash pads are open for the season, making them a fun destination for families looking to cool off. Use the WhitBEE chatbot on whitby.ca to see which location is closest to you or find a full list at whitby.ca/SplashPads.

5. Visit the Farmers’ Market

Summer markets are back. The Whitby Farmers’ Market is open for the season at Celebration Square and the Brooklin Farmers’ Market starts Saturday, June 13, running weekly through October. Expect local produce, baking, handmade goods, and more. Details: WhitbyFarmersMarket.ca.

6. Explore Whitby by Bike This June                                     

June is Bike Month. Explore Whitby’s trails, multi-use paths, and bike lanes with route maps and bike repair stand locations. Drop-in Bike Repair Workshops will offer hands-on help to learn basic maintenance and bike repairs (inflate tires, adjust brakes/gears, lubricate chains, tighten bolts, and complete safety checks), plus giveaways including bike bells, lights, and more. Workshops will be held at the Whitby Public Library Central Branch (405 Dundas St. W.) on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m and along the Waterfront Trail at Rotary Sunrise Lake Park on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

7. Pride Month Events

June is Pride Month in Whitby, with activities and displays planned throughout the month. The Durham Pride Parade takes place on June 6 at 10 a.m., inviting residents and community members to come together in celebration. On June 13 from 1 to 4 p.m., Youth Pride Durham will be held at the Region of Durham Headquarters, offering a free, family-friendly event for 2SLGBTQI+ youth, children, families, and allies, featuring live performances, a magic show, DJ, face painting, and a community resource village with local organizations and supports. 8. Celebrate Local Food Week

Start Local Food Week with a taste of Whitby. The Whitby Food Guide highlights local restaurants, cafés, markets, and specialty food shops worth exploring, whether you’re picking up Ontario-grown produce or planning your next meal out. New this year, the Whitby Brewery Passport offers another way to support local by discovering craft breweries across town. With Local Food Week beginning the first Monday in June, it’s a great time to shop local, try somewhere new, and celebrate the businesses that help make Whitby’s food scene unique.

9. Mark National AccessAbility Week

National AccessAbility Week celebrates the achievements of people with disabilities and encourages communities across Canada to be welcoming and accessible for everyone. This week is about recognizing these contributions, reducing stigma, and showing how important it is for all spaces to be easy for everyone to use. Learn more at whitby.ca/Accessibility

10. Get Ready for Canada Day

Celebrate Canada Day on Whitby’s waterfront with an evening of family fun and fireworks at Victoria Fields on July 1. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and include live music, family-friendly activities, and food trucks. Please note that ongoing harbour remediation work will impact parking and viewing areas at the south end of Victoria Fields.

Town fireworks will light up the sky at dusk (approximately 10 p.m.). Fireworks are only permitted on Wednesday, July 1, from dusk to 11 p.m. and only on private property with the owner’s permission.
