Fieldgate’s Grand Opening Is Almost Here: Join the Celebration September 12
Free event offers a first look at new outdoor and indoor recreation spaces and full day of family-friendly activities.
The countdown is on to the Grand Opening of Fieldgate Sports Complex, and residents are invited to join the celebration on Saturday, September 12, for a full day of free activities and opportunities to explore Whitby’s newest recreation destination.
For the first time, the celebration will also give residents a sneak peek of the complex’s outdoor recreation spaces. Shaped by community feedback, the 13-acre Roybrook Park will bring together a variety of spaces for sport, recreation, and play, including courts, a skateboard park, pump track, artificial turf field, and playground spaces.
A Full Day of Activities
The Grand Opening takes place at 2 Gathering Place in Whitby. The official ceremony and ribbon cutting will run from 9:30 to 10 a.m., followed by free family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Indoor activities will include free, drop-in skating, swimming, gymnasium sports, arts and crafts, fitness activities, behind-the-scenes and self-guided video tours, and more.
Outdoor activities and demonstrations will take place throughout the day, including:
- Get Rolling: discover the skateboard park and pump track, with skateboarding lessons, demonstrations, and challenges. Special guest and professional skateboarder TJ Rogers will also join the festivities throughout the day, sharing tips and signing autographs.
- Get Active: try pickleball, basketball, netball, and more, with drop-in activities hosted by local sports organizations. Explore the new courts and check out the Ontario Tennis Association’s Tennis Smash Cage
- Take to the Turf: experience Whitby’s first artificial turf field. Enjoy soccer with Whitby Football Club and lacrosse with the Whitby Minor Lacrosse Association.
- Play and Explore: discover new park and playground spaces designed for families to gather, play, and spend time outdoors.
The outdoor spaces will be open for the Grand Opening, giving residents an early look at the park’s amenities before temporarily closing for final landscaping and finishing touches.
