By Car
  • From the north: Highway 12 South (This route passes directly through Downtown Brooklin and Downtown Whitby)
  • From the north-west: Highway 407 East (Toll Route) to Highway 412 South or Highway 12   
  • From the north-east: Highway 407 West (Toll Route) to Highway 412 South or Highway 12                 
  • From the west: Highway 401 East and exit at either Lakeridge Road, Brock Street South, or Thickson Road South                                               
  • From the east: Highway 401 West and exit at either Lakeridge Road, Brock Street South, or Thickson Road South                                               
  • From the west (non major highway): Highway 2 or Kingston Road West                                               
  • From the east (non major highway): Highway 2 or Dundas Street West 
By Go Train

Whitby Go Station is located on the Lakeshore East line and with regular services from Downtown Toronto (and beyond) to Downtown Oshawa. Plan your trip via train by visiting Go Transit Website.  

By Bus

Several bus routes are available throughout the Town and connect Whitby to neighbouring municipalities. Visit Durham Region Transit to view available timetables and route options.   

By Air

Whitby is accessible by air via three main airports:

  • Pearson International Airport: Located 45 minutes west of Whitby via Highway 401. The airport is accessible to international and domestic travellers.
  • Billy Bishop Airport: Located in downtown Toronto, 45 minutes south-west of Whitby via Highway 401 and Don Valley Parkway. This airport is accessible to travellers from across North America.

Whitby approved Destination Whitby -  2022 – 2025 Whitby Tourism Strategy in May of 2022. The Strategy outlines a plan to guide the municipality in future tourism support, promotion, planning and development. It is a framework for businesses, local government and residents to leverage the visitor economy and grow Whitby as a visitor -ready and welcoming destination.

Does Whitby have an Official Tree?

To commemorate Earth Day 2024, the Town of Whitby planted its first Official Tree at Town Hall. The tulip tree, a species which can only be found in southwestern Ontario, was selected by over 200 community members. 

Is Whitby a dog friendly community?

Whitby welcome four-legged friends. Explore one of Whitby's off-leash dog parks:

  • Cochrane Street North off-leash dog park (located within the Heber Down Conservation Area)
  • Jeffery Street South off-leash dog park (located next to Lynde Shores Conservation Area)
