Limousine and Taxi Licences

It costs $200.00 to apply for a limousine owner's licence.

Please provide the following with your application:

• Proof of current vehicle registration
• For vehicles three years or older, current Ministry of Transportation Safety Standard Certificate (or Commercial Safety for Accessible Vehicles)
• Valid automobile liability certificate of insurance amounting to a minimum of $2 million

To complete the application process, your vehicle must be inspected by a Town of Whitby Enforcement Officer. To schedule an appointment, please call 905.430.4345.  

In order to drive a taxi in the Town, you must have a licence. Taxi driver licences are valid for one year.

By-law Services licences and inspects taxicabs in the Town of Whitby to make sure they are in safe working order and that taxi meters are accurate.

It costs $77.00 to apply for a limousine driver's licence.

Please provide the following information with your application to demonstrate that you are eligible to drive and operate a limousine:

• Two recent passport-size photos
• Valid G class driver's licence
• Three-year uncertified driver's record with no more than six demerit points
• All drivers are required to undergo a police background check. If you reside in Toronto, you can obtain a vulnerable sector police check by contacting bylaw@whitby.ca to obtain an initial application. For those residing outside of Toronto, please obtain a vulnerable sector police check from your local police service.

• Licence fee of $82.00
• Two recent passport-size photos
• Valid G class driver's licence
• Three-year uncertified driver's record with no more than six demerit points
• Police reference check, including a vulnerable sector screening check, available from Durham Regional Police
