Whitby Reaches Major Milestone as Fieldgate Sports Complex Is Officially Handed Over

Town assumes operations of landmark recreation facility as final preparations continue toward September 12 Grand Opening

Whitby's largest recreation project is entering its final chapter. The Town of Whitby has officially taken possession of the Fieldgate Sports Complex, marking the transition from construction to opening preparations and bringing the community one step closer to experiencing its newest recreation destination.

The facility handover marks a significant milestone in a project. With construction substantially complete, Town staff will now begin preparing the complex for opening by commissioning systems, installing equipment and furnishings, training staff, and completing final operational readiness activities – starting in the arenas which will open for the Ontario Lacrosse Festival on July 31.

Preparation work in all other areas of the complex – both the indoor and outdoor spaces – will continue ahead of the facility's Official Grand Opening Celebration on September 12.

Fieldgate Sports Complex was shaped through years of planning, community engagement, and collaboration to support Whitby's growing population and evolving recreation needs. Once complete, it will serve as a hub for recreation, sport, wellness, and community connection for generations to come.

• Only the arenas will be open during the Ontario Lacrosse Festival. The aquatics centre, gymnasium, walking track, and outdoor recreation amenities will remain closed while final construction, equipment load-in, staff training, and operational preparations continue ahead of the complex Grand Opening on September 12.
• OLA tournament schedules and event information will be available through the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
• Located west of Baldwin Street South and south of Highway 407, the approximately 15,200-square-metre facility will serve as a premier destination for recreation, sport, and community connection.
