Whitby mayor thanks residents for sharing feedback on proposed Transit-Oriented Community

Infrastructure Ontario’s public survey on the proposed Transit-Oriented Community at the Whitby GO Station has now closed.

Thank you to the many Whitby residents who took the time to complete the survey or attend one of the public open houses in July. 

I recently met with Whitby MPP Lorne Coe and Durham MPP Todd McCarthy, to discuss the proposal and share the feedback I have heard from residents.

This includes concerns about the proposed height and density of the development, and the potential impacts on traffic volume, commuter parking, and future GO station operations. 

I continue to stress the importance of this proposal following the standard Planning Act process, including technical review, municipal input and a statutory public meeting where Whitby residents can have their say. 

I am calling on the province to ensure meaningful local participation in project planning, appropriate consideration of local planning policies, and a balanced outcome that advances provincial objectives while protecting community interests.

I strongly believe that concerns can be resolved through constructive dialogue between the Town of Whitby, Infrastructure Ontario, Metrolinx, and the Region of Durham. 

I remain committed to sharing updates as new information becomes available, including further opportunities for residents to provide feedback.
