Whitby Launches New Accessibility Features on Town Website

A new accessibility menu on Whitby.ca helps residents find, read and use website information in a way that works best for them.

They can adjust text, colours and spacing, use reading supports, reduce distractions, and translate pages into multiple languages. These tools can help people who use assistive technology, prefer to read information in another language, or need temporary or ongoing accessibility support.

Residents can use the menu to:

  • Make text easier to read by changing the size, spacing, line height, colours and contrast.
  • Move through pages more easily with highlighted links, a larger cursor and helpful tooltips.
  • Use reading supports like reading guides, screen masking, dyslexia-friendly settings and text-to-speech.
  • Create a simpler page experience by pausing animations or hiding images.
  • Translate website content into multiple languages.
