Thanksgiving Holiday 2026 – What’s Open/Closed
With Thanksgiving on October 12, here’s a look at what Town amenities and services are open or closed.
Visiting a Town Facility
Planning to get active at a Town facility over the long weekend?
- All Town recreation facilities will be open on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11 – except for the 55+ Recreation Centre, which is closed both days, and the Brooklin Community Centre and Library, which will be closed on Sunday, October 11.
- Most fitness classes and recreation programs are cancelled from Saturday, October 10 to Monday, October 12, unless participants are notified otherwise.
Skating
- Regular skate programming will run on Saturday, October 10 at all locations.
- The following skating programs will also be offered on Sunday, October 10:
- Public Skate at McKinney Centre from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Family Stick and Puck from 1 to 2:15 p.m. and Public Skate from 2:15 to 4 p.m. at Fieldgate Sports Complex.
- Family Stick and Puck at Iroquois Park Sports Centre from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
Swimming
- Registered swimming lessons are cancelled from Saturday, October 10 to Monday, October 12 at Anne Ottenbrite Pool at Iroquois Park Sports Centre, Whitby Civic Recreation Complex, and Fieldgate Sports Complex.
- Pools will be open for drop-in swims only on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11.
- All Town facilities will be closed on Monday, October 12.
Catch Up On Your Reading
All Whitby Public Library locations will be open on Saturday, October 10, and closed on Sunday, October 11 and Monday, October 12. Book returns remain open. Digital content is available 24/7 at WhitbyLibrary.ca.
Waste Collection Reminder
There will be no waste collection services on Monday, October 12. Please put your garbage, green bin and blue boxes out one day after your regular pick-up day.
