Thank You, Whitby: Opening of Fieldgate Sports Complex Launches a New Chapter for Recreation

Grand Opening marks the start of year-round opportunities to play, move, and connect.

Thank you, Whitby, for helping us officially open the doors to the Fieldgate Sports Complex.

On Saturday, September 12, nearly 10,000 residents, sports enthusiasts, and visitors came together to explore the new facility, try activities, meet local sport and community organizations, and get a first look at the complex’s outdoor recreation spaces.

The celebration marked an important milestone for Whitby - and the beginning of a new chapter for recreation in the community.

The Fieldgate Sports Complex is our most significant recreation project to date and one of 62 commitments in Whitby’s Community Strategic Plan. It represents years of listening, planning and collaboration -- and a major investment in quality of life of our growing town. Built by the community, for the community, this facility reflects Whitby at its best: active, connected, inclusive and ready for the future.”

           - Elizabeth Roy, Mayor, Town of Whitby

“As we open the new Fieldgate Sports Complex, I’d like to thank the many dedicated staff, local sports organizations, funding partners including the Government of Canada and Fieldgate Homes, and, of course, residents who helped shape a shared vision for the facility. The Grand Opening was a proud moment for Whitby. Now, the most exciting part begins - seeing our community use and enjoy these spaces every day.”
