Planning for Growth: Whitby Secures 60+ Hectares for Future Sports Fields
Building on the momentum of the upcoming opening of the Fieldgate Sports Complex, the Town of Whitby is taking another major step to expand recreational space and meet growing community demand – securing more than 60 hectares of land in North Whitby for a future outdoor sports field complex.
Located on the east side of Duffs Road, north of Brawley Road, the site will expand field capacity and support increasing participation in cricket, soccer, and baseball as Whitby continues to grow. The Town will develop the lands through a multi-phase, multi-year approach, with construction timing aligned with Whitby’s growth and budget planning.
A draft site concept released today outlines how the space could be designed to meet community needs. The concept builds on extensive feedback gathered through Whitby’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Future additional engagement with residents and user groups will be planned to help refine the design, amenities, and programming.
