Facts. Not Fiction: Straight from the Source “My property taxes keep going up… but nothing changes.”

It’s a common perception - and one we hear often.
When your tax bill increases, it can be hard to see where that money is going.

Here’s what’s actually going on.
Your property tax bill is made up of three parts: a municipal portion (Town of Whitby), a regional portion (Region of Durham), and an education portion set by the Province.

That means the Town receives only a share of the total amount paid.
The municipal portion helps fund a wide range of everyday services - including road maintenance, snow clearing, parks, recreation facilities, fire services, and more.

Changes to your tax bill can happen for a number of reasons, including adjustments to property assessments by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) and the cost of maintaining and delivering services across a growing community.

While increases may not always be visible in one specific area, they support the ongoing delivery of services residents rely on every day.

Knowing how the system actually works beats the comments section. Every. Time.

Share facts. Not fiction.

Straight from the source.
