Whitby Secures Additional Investment in Future Fieldgate Sports Complex

$950,000 Toyota naming agreement helps to reduce facility costs and support future recreation opportunities in Whitby

The Town of Whitby is pleased to announce that Whitby Toyota is extending its long-standing support of sports and recreation in the community, following Council approval of new naming rights agreements for the future Fieldgate Sports Complex.

Over the next ten years, the Whitby dealership will contribute a total of $950,000 in support of the complex, lending their name to the pickleball courts and Arena 1. This agreement builds on previously announced naming rights sponsorships at the sports complex, further reducing the facility operating costs while creating new recreation opportunities in Whitby.

The Fieldgate Sports Complex is currently in the finishing stages of construction and is set to open in 2026.

“Partnerships like this help us to deliver world-class recreation facilities while being mindful of affordability for residents. Whitby Toyota has been a valued partner for many years, and we’re proud to continue working together as we open this exciting new chapter for sport and recreation in our community.”

– Elizabeth Roy, Mayor, Town of Whitby

"Whitby Toyota is excited to be a naming partner of the future Fieldgate Sports Complex. Through both hockey and pickleball, our commitment to the community will be visible at this complex, complementing the partnership we've had for years at McKinney Centre and Iroquois Park Sports Centre. We commend the Town of Whitby for its incredible investment and vision, as well as Mayor Roy for her passion for the sports complex project. We have never been more excited to give back to our community."

– Jeff Kingsley, General Manager, Whitby Toyota

QUICK FACTS

·       In addition to it’s future support of the Fieldgate Sports Complex, Whitby Toyota will also continue its existing Arena 3 Naming Rights Sponsorship at McKinney Centre and facility advertising at Iroquois Park Sports Centre through 2030.

·       A naming rights sponsorship is a financial or land contribution that gives a business or family the opportunity to have a facility, room, or public space named after them — helping to reduce project costs for the community.

·       The new complex will be located on the west side of Baldwin Street South, just south of Highway 407.

·       Nearly 3,000 residents and community partners provided feedback to help inform the facility’s design.

·       Once open, the facility will feature Durham’s largest pool, a twin pad arena, multi-purpose gymnasium, and more. The outdoor park will feature lit pickleball, tennis and basketball courts; Whitby’s first multi-purpose artificial turf field, a skatepark and pump track; and more.
