What Did You Just Call Me?
Got a great name for a new Whitby park or facility? Whitby wants to hear it!
The Town’s rolling out a new policy that puts residents at the heart of naming significant facilities, from parks to community centres.
The new policy updates naming criteria to reflect best practices, including supporting Indigenous naming opportunities in alignment with the Town’s Truth and Reconciliation commitments.
How It Works
As part of the planning process for new parks and facilities, residents will now be invited to submit name ideas under three categories: geographic features, supporting a positive image for the Town, and names of notable people who have made significant contributions to the Town.
Town staff will develop a shortlist of eligible name suggestions that the community will then have the chance to weigh in on and rank their favourites. The results of this input will be summarized in a report to Council, who will make the final decision.
Help Name A Whitby Park
Residents can start participating immediately in the first project: submitting name suggestions through an online survey for two existing but currently unnamed West Whitby parks. The survey closes on December 12.
