The Top Ways to Celebrate Family Day in Whitby

On Monday, February 16, make new memories with your loved ones by enjoying the activities below.

1. Attend Whitby’s Family Day Event

Enjoy Kids’ Activities

Celebrate Family Day at one of two locations in Whitby. Iroquois Park Sports Centre (IPSC) will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring face painting, a balloon artist, stilt walkers, and more. Feed the Need in Durham will be accepting food and monetary donations at IPSC.

The Brooklin Community Centre and Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering drop-in programs, a balloon artist, a strolling juggler, magic shows, kids’ crafts, magic shows at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and more. Whitby’s Accessibility Advisory Committee will also host a Sensory Space in the Optimist Room during the event.Tim Hortons products will be available on site while supplies last!

Take Part in a Free Skate

Lace up your skates and enjoy a free Family Day skate with family and friends at Iroquois Park Sports Centre, Luther Vipond Memorial Arena, or McKinney Centre. For skate times and details, visit whitby.ca/FamilyDay.

Go for a Free Family Day Swim

Make a splash with a free Family Day swim at one of the following locations:

  • Iroquois Park Sports Centre (Anne Ottenbrite Pool)
  • Whitby Civic Recreation Complex Pool

Please note:

  • There will be no swimming lessons on Monday, February 16.
  • Regular drop-in swims and swimming lessons are still scheduled on Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15.
  • There will be no fitness classes at the CRC or at the Brooklin Community Centre and Library on February 16.

2. Enjoy Dinner as a Family

3. Read as a Family

Embrace your inner bookworm and spend the day reading as a family. A reminder that all Whitby Public Library locations will be closed Sunday, February 15 and Monday, February 16. Book returns remain open and digital content is available 24/7 at WhitbyLibrary.ca.

Holiday Service Changes

  • Town Hall and Garden Street Branch phone services will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13 and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17.
  • Iroquois Park Sports Centre, Luther Vipond Memorial Arena, McKinney Centre, and the Brooklin Community Centre and Library will be open on Monday, February 16, with Family Day activities at Iroquois Park Sports Centre running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Brooklin Community Centre and Library open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Health Club at the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex will be open for members from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre will be closed on Sunday, February 15.

Waste Collection

There is no waste collection service on Monday, February 16. Garbage, green bin, and blue box collection will be moved forward one day after your regular pick-up day. To confirm your collection pick-up day, check the waste collection calendar or download the Whitby Waste Buddy app. Residents are reminded to please place waste in a snow-cleared portion of their driveway, not on or behind snowbanks.
