Lest We Forget – Honouring Our Veterans This Remembrance Day 2025

The Town of Whitby is proud to support its two local Legions: Brooklin Legion Branch 152 and Whitby Legion Branch 112. Here are just a few of the ways you can pay tribute to our veterans and active service members this month:

1. Attend a ceremony on November 11 at 11 a.m. There are three locations to choose from:

  • Whitby Cenotaph located at 109 Dundas Street East in Downtown Whitby, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112 (Whitby Legion)
  • Brooklin Cenotaph at the Brooklin Community Centre and Library, located at 8 Vipond Road, Whitby, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 152 (Brooklin Legion)
  • Intrepid Park, 2008 Boundary Road, hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces

2. Attend a National Indigenous Veterans Day Ceremony

  • On November 8 at 11 a.m., gather at Celebration Square outside the Whitby Public Library’s Central Branch (405 Dundas Street West) to honour and remember the service, sacrifices, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans. Many of these veterans served with distinction while facing systemic barriers and inequities at home. Tom Cowie of Hiawatha First Nation, a respected Knowledge Keeper and veteran, is providing guidance to Whitby’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee as they coordinate the ceremony.

3. Take a moment to learn about a hero

  • When walking through Downtown Whitby, Downtown Brooklin, or outside Town Hall, be sure to look up. You will find photos and stories of local veterans and active service members displayed on lampposts.
  • The banners designed by local graphic designer Emma Inkpen were developed through a partnership between the Town of Whitby, Brooklin Legion Branch 152, and Whitby Legion Branch 112.

Be sure to look up to the skies to see the Canadian Forces Snowbirds as they fly over Whitby on Remembrance Day Morning.
