Construction Project Updates – February 2026

Project: Columbus Road Closure (Country Lane to Cedarbrook Trail) – August 2025 to 2028                

The project is expected to take approximately three years and will require coordination with multiple agencies and utilities. Detour routes are posted, and all north–south roads crossing Columbus Road will remain open. Tree and brush clearing will begin in January and be completed by April 1, ahead of major road construction beginning this year. Construction will include new water crossings and the installation of water and sewer lines, with Bell and other utilities adjusting their infrastructure as work progresses.

Project Number: T-43-2023, White Bridge Replacement (Columbus Road at Lynde Creek) – July 2025 to December 2026

Please be advised that construction on the White Bridge will continue throughout the year. Crews continue to focus on building the Columbus Road West bridge over Lynde Creek and improving the approach along Columbus Road, weather permitting. The bridge is being widened to include new bike lanes and sidewalks. Work will also include creek realignment and landscaping. Please note that regular waste collection and snow clearing services will not be affected during the construction period. We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation.  

Project Number: T-34-2025, Culvert and Ditch Repairs – December 2025 to June 2026

Please be advised that the Town is currently undertaking minor repairs of various culverts and bridges throughout the Town. The work includes repairing cracks in concrete and asphalt, replacing guiderails, completing retaining wall repairs, and preventing erosion.

It's important to know that not all construction projects happening in Whitby are being run by the Town. Some projects are being run by Bell, Rogers, developers, Durham Region, and more.
