Celebrating 50 Years of the Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre!

In February 1976, the Whitby Seniors Activity Centre opened its doors for the very first time, a welcoming 5,000-square-foot space where 105 members gathered to connect, learn, and stay active. What began as a small community hub has grown into the vibrant Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre we know today: 16,000 square feet of dynamic programming space offering recreation, leisure, and special events for nearly 3,000 members aged 55+.

As we enter 2026, we’re excited to honour 50 years of community, friendship, and lifelong learning. Throughout the anniversary year, we’ll be rolling out special events, memory-sharing opportunities, and recognition activities that celebrate our rich history and the people who have shaped it.

Stay connected and be part of the celebration! Visit the Centre regularly and pick up our monthly calendars for event details, displays, and activities happening throughout the year. Here’s to 50 years—and the many more memories still to come!
