In the Fall of 2018, the Town started the development of its first Culture Plan with the purpose to provide strategic direction for the provision of arts and culture programs, services and facilities in the Municipality, which responds to the changing demographic and cultural composition of the community over the next 10 years.
The Plan looks at building capacity in the culture sector, and acts as an economic driver that retains and attracts talent, and capital investment. The plan has been developed through extensive inventorying of cultural resources (both tangible and intangible), with over 1,000 community and stakeholder participants. The plan outlines strategic directions, actions, costs and timelines for implementation.
The Plan was developed in three Phases:
Community Survey - Have Your Say!
The Town of Whitby is seeking community feedback on its proposed Culture Plan - Directions and Actions. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in a short online survey before Tuesday, June 23.
A Staff Report went to Committee of the Whole Monday, November 18. The CMS 28-19 Report discusses the Culture Plan: Phase One – Background Report and Engagement Summary; and Phase Two – Draft Vision and Guiding Principles
As an important part of the Plan’s development, residents were invited to provide their feedback about what culture in Whitby means to them during a Community Open House held on June 4. View the Culture Plan presentation slides and presentation boards shared during the Community Open House.
