Sports Equipment on Streets

Sports equipment left unattended on a street or overhanging a portion of a street can pose a safety hazard for motorists.  The Town's Property and Boulevard Maintenance By-law requires that residents remove sports equipment, including basketball nets, hockey nets and skateboard ramps from the road when not in use.

What you should know?

A notice may be attached to any piece of sports equipment left unattended on or over a street providing 24 hours to remove the item.

Failure to comply with the notice may result in the sports equipment being removed from the road and held at a secure site for 30 days. Sports equipment can be reclaimed within 30 days at a cost of $50.00.  Items that are left unclaimed will be disposed of.

If any of your belongings have been removed by the Town, please contact Operational Services at 905.668.3437 or Open new window to send an email to Operations Whitby.
