Mayor Roy to meet with Minister of Transportation to discuss hospital land disposition, other issues

Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy will meet with Ontario Transportation Minister Pabmeet Sarkaria during the 2024 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa from Aug. 18 to 21, to discuss several critical issues impacting Whitby.

The town’s population is expected to grow from about 150,000 to 180,000 by 2031, and Whitby has committed to a provincial housing target of building 18,000 new homes by 2031.

Meeting topics of discussion are expected to include:

Disposition of 50 acres of land for the new Whitby hospital
Solutions to the challenges posed by truck traffic in Downtown Brooklin
Designs/alternatives for the intersection of Ferguson Avenue and Hwy. 7

The AMO Conference is a valuable opportunity for municipal leaders to connect with the Province on issues of local importance. I’m looking forward to a productive meeting with Minister Sarkaria to advance several Whitby issues that are a high priority for our residents.
