Town Kicks Off Annual Stuff-A-Bug Toy and Food Drive for Local Families in Need

This December 4 to 22, residents are invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy or non-perishable food donations to Iroquois Park Sports Centre (IPSC), as part of the Town’s annual Stuff-A-Bug Toy and Food Drive for local families in need.

Each year, the Town partners with local Volkswagen dealer Owasco to collect new, unwrapped toys that are ‘stuffed’ through the open sunroof of a holiday-themed Volkswagon Beetle (Bug). All donations collected are distributed locally through the Salvation Army to less fortunate children and their families.

In years’ past, due to the incredible generosity of Whitby residents, the Bug has needed to be emptied several times to make space for new donations.

Today, Mayor Don Mitchell and Members of Council – along with community partners Bob Jr. Verwey, Owasco General Manager, and Charlie Burns, Community and Family Services Director for Whitby's Salvation Army – took part in the giving by bringing their own toy and food donations to IPSC.

The Bug will continue to be parked in the lobby of IPSC from December 4 to December 22 to accept donations.
