Work includes the removal of base and top asphalt (may contain asbestos), curb and sidewalk repairs as required, new base and top asphalt, driveway and sod restoration.
Now through November 8, 2024
Work includes sidewalk removal and replacement, and multi-use path and cycle track installation. A cycle track is a separate lane for bicycles that is adjacent to the roadway, but separated from traffic.
Now through May, 2027
Work includes the construction of partial height roadway embankments (walls of earth to prevent flooding) along Des Newman Boulevard.
Please note the above urban road reconstruction projects (project T-501-2023) have been identified as roads that contain asbestos. Asbestos was a popular material widely used in asphalt mixes until the early 1980s to improve the performance of the asphalt. With the below safety precautions in place, the risk of exposure to asbestos for residents, workers, and bystanders is low.
Residents may also notice those dealing directly with the asphalt material wearing personal protective equipment as a precaution.
Residents who live in or frequent the area where work will be undertaken should avoid the immediate work site during the asphalt removal process.
