Following the tree tour, continue to celebrate National Forest Week by helping us grow the urban forest in Whitby. Give back to nature by planting native trees and shrubs at Rosedale Park. This event will be held rain or shine, so be sure to wear appropriate clothing. Participants are asked to bring a water bottle and gardening gloves.
Did you know the Town of Whitby has an official tree? In 2024, the community selected the tulip tree as Whitby’s first official tree, which has been planted behind Town Hall. The tulip tree is a fast-growing tree that can live up to 300 years and grow up to 50 metres tall. It has broad leaves and fragrant flowers shaped like tulips that attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
You can plant a tree to beautify your property and make a positive impact on the environment. The Town offers residential plants, trees, and shrubs at a subsidized price through our Backyard Tree Planting Program.
