One of the greatest strengths in any community is its volunteers, and Whitby is no exception. Whether you wish to volunteer once for a particular event, or apply to join one of our many advisory boards and committees, you will be making a positive difference in our community.

Frequently Asked Questions

 What are age requirements to be a volunteer?
 Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age at the start of the volunteer activity. Of note, volunteers aged 14 to 18 must have consent of a parent/legal guardian.
 Am I required to do a minimum number of volunteer hours?
 There is not a minimum number of hours required for volunteers.
 How do I become a volunteer?

Print and complete the volunteer application form and return to the Town of Whitby as noted on the form.

NOTE: Original signatures of both the volunteer and parent/guardian are required on the application form.

Committees

The Town of Whitby encourages Whitby residents or property owners, 18 years of age or older, to participate in their community by volunteering for one of our Advisory Boards & Committees. To recognize, promote and strengthen the sense of community, all Whitby residents are encouraged to become involved.

Council will appoint qualified candidates for citizen vacancies based on their application. All applicants will be notified of the final determination by mail.

Volunteer Strategy and Action Plan

The Town of Whitby is developing its first ever Volunteer Strategy and Action Plan to support the hundreds of volunteers that help us deliver Town events. The new framework will help us promote, recruit, retain, support celebrate and recognize our volunteers.

Key milestones include:

  • Research and Engagement – Q2 2018, completed
  • Strategy Development – Q3 2018, completed
  • Action Plan and Tools – Q4 2018/Q1 2019

On September 17, 2018, Whitby Town Council approved the Town’s first Volunteer Strategy - read our news story to learn more. The new strategy, action plan and tools will launch spring 2019.
