March Break Activities for Youth
Join us on Wednesday March 12 for a Free Intergenerational Skate. Whitby residents are invited to skate free of charge at Iroquois Park Sports Centre (500 Victoria Street West, Whitby), from 1:00-3:00 p.m. This event is designed to bring youth and seniors together to join in a day of physical activity, music and fun. Families are welcome and youth and seniors are encouraged to take part in this year's event.
Both Youth Room locations will be open from Monday March 10 to Saturday March 15 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. There will be free activities running at both locations including; ping pong and pool tournaments, movie and popcorn and even green pancakes to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Whitby Youth Council
Whitby Youth Council consists of youth and adults interested in working together to address the needs of youth in the community. The four main priorities identified by the Youth Council are: Youth Events, Promotion of Youth Council and Events, Outreach Programming for Youth and Recruitment of new Volunteers for the Youth Council. Members of the Whitby Youth Council gain experience and opportunities in their community to use for future endeavors, while obtaining their Community Service Volunteer hours. » More
Town of Whitby Council has approved a Youth Strategy that will guide the Recreation and Leisure Services for the Whitby community from 2013 to 2018. After extensive community consultation and feedback from over 700 youth surveys, focus groups and stakeholder interviews, the Youth Section presented a Youth Strategy to Council that recommends focusing on six objectives over the next five years in order to remain a Platinum Level Youth Friendly Community. The development and adoption of this Youth Strategy reinforces Council’s commitment to youth and ensures that youth and the staff working with them have direction and focus moving forward.
The adoption and implementation of the 2013 to 2018 Recreation and Leisure Services Youth Strategy will ensure that Whitby continues to consider the needs of youth and be a model community for youth and their families to live, work and play
Funding for Youth in the Performing Arts
In December 2013, Mayor Pat Perkins announced funding for youth in the performing arts through financial assistance from The Association in Support of the Whitby Performing Arts Centre. This funding has been given to the following three community organizations:
