Highway 401 Widening (Salem Rd to Brock St)

The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) in partnership with AECOM , is re-initiating a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) and Preliminary Design Study for Highway 401 from Salem Road in the Town of Ajax to Brock Street in the Town of Whitby. The purpose of the study is to address the capacity, operational, and safety requirements for highway 401 within the study limits, including integration of the planned improvements for the Highway 407 West Durham Link connection to Highway 401 and a new Lake Ridge Road interchage,

Two Public Information Centres (PICs) are being planned to coincide with each of the EA study phases .

Highway 401 Rehabilitation/widening (Brock Rd to Salem Rd and Brock St to Courtice Rd)

The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) in partnership with AECOM , is re-initiating a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) and Preliminary Design Study for Highway 401 from Salem Road in the Town of Ajax to Brock Street in the Town of Whitby. 

The  primary focus of this study is to confirm the rehabilitation needs of the corridor. In parallel, the study team will confirm the long-term capacity and operational needs so that rehabilitation investments are made with knowledge of the long-term vision for the corridor. The recommended plan will include rehabilitation recommendations, identify the long-term mainline widening requirements, include safety and operational improvements, and consider transit friendly initiatives.
