Composting/Green Bins

The Town of Whitby is responsible for collecting the green bin (organic) waste.
- Green bin (organic) waste is collected weekly on your regular collection day.
- Make sure your green bin is at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
- Place green bins and residual garbage out together on the same side of your driveway for collection.

Green Bin Liners
All green bin waste must be contained in a certified compostable bag or an acceptable green bin liner, e.g., kraft paper bag, certified 100% compostable bag (must have logo).

Organic well wrapped in newspaper will also be accepted.

Note: If you are requesting a replacement green bin, please bring your damaged green bin to this location for exchange. Replacements are free.

Backyard composting is an easy and inexpensive way to provide essential nutrients for your lawn and garden. Reduce your household waste and feed your garden at the same time! Composters are available for sale at the Durham Region Waste Management Centre in Whitby at the address shown above.
