Whitby Council's 2014-18 goals

Prosperous downtowns and safe streets, neighbourhoods top Council’s 2014-18 goals -

Whitby Council has unanimously adopted eight goals to guide its work during the new Council’s four-year, 2014-18 term.

Top goals identified at the January 19 Council meeting are to:

  • Generate local jobs and build downtowns that are prosperous and friendly to pedestrians
  • Enhance the safety of local streets and neighbourhoods and increase citizens’ involvement in strengthening community safety   
  • Ensure Whitby is viewed by all stakeholders as friendly to business and investment.

Other goals set by Council are more Town Hall transparency and accessibility, effective community engagement, responsible financial management and respect for taxpayers, walkable and complete neighbourhoods that offer mobility choices and to develop Whitby as a destination for visitors.

Council will consider action plans to achieve the top three 2014-18 goals at a special meeting of Council on Monday, March 23, 6:00 p.m. Actions plans for other goals will be considered at other, upcoming Council meetings.
