Details:  The Town invites residents, students, business and industry to attend Whitby's World Town Planning Day event about the business advantage to sustainability. A commitment to achieve a balanced, healthy and sustainable community is the basis for Whitby's 2013 World Town Planning Day event. The doors will open to the public at 6:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to view the many exhibits. Displays will include a number of Town of Whitby Departments, Whitby Sustainability Advisory Committee, Whitby Hydro, Durham College, IBM Smarter Cities and the Chevrolet VOLT by Nurse Chevrolet Cadillac. At 7:00 p.m. Whitby has brought together an exciting and excellent group of panelists to make three brief presentations, which will be followed by a short panel discussion and question and answer period. The panel of experts includes: Dr. Bob Willard: Author and Speaker, Sustainability Advantage; Mr. Doug Yates: Environmental Group Manager, General Motors Canada; Mr. John Longbottom: IBM Smarter Cities. The presentations will be of particular interest to residents within the community, business, industry, university and college students, professionals in the private and public sectors and leaders of major institutions.
